On January 25, 2024, FOROF hosted the second Episode of SEASON III – BALTIC ADVENTURE, presenting for the first time in Rome the Vilnius University Folk Ensemble “Ratilio” with a special performance of Sutartinė, ancient Lithuanian polyphonic songs inscribed in 2010 on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

The voices of Sutartinė
The ensemble brought to the heart of the Basilica Ulpia the polyphonic sonorities of Sutartinė: simple melodies of two to five tones, interwoven with essential choral movements and ritual choreographies that evoke the strength of community.

Tradition and memory
These songs narrate themes of work, annual rituals, family, and history, keeping alive a shared cultural identity. The choral voices, amplified by the archaeological context, created a symbolic bridge between past communities and today’s audience.

Mudballs and conviviality
On this occasion, Augustas Serapinas presented a limited edition of 20 Mudballs, an extension of the Mudmen project conceived during the 2020 Riga Biennale.
As in every Episode, the evening concluded with the gastronomic experience curated by Rimessa Roscioli, enriched with specialties from Lithuanian tradition.
