Black Med, Chapter III — Invernomuto
EPISODE 4 — SEASON I · LOVOTIC-X Programme
With Black Med, Chapter III by Invernomuto (Simone Bertuzzi and Simone Trabucchi), FOROF hosted the fourth Episode of LOVOTIC-X, the programme curated by Soundwalk Collective that activates the immersive installation LOVOTIC. A listening session that builds a Mediterranean soundscape, intertwining musical research, critical theory and speculative narratives.

A sonic atlas of the Mediterranean
First presented in 2018 at Manifesta 12 in Palermo, Black Med aims to trace the trajectories that sounds draw while crossing the Mediterranean area, once a sea of exchanges and today a theatre of humanitarian crisis and geopolitical tensions. Adapting to this context the theory of the Black Atlantic by Alessandra Di Maio, Black Med, Chapter III combines field recordings, archival materials and fluid, dark electronic experiments to give shape to a moving, unstable sonic geography.

Listening session and theoretical imagery
The listening session unfolds as a performative DJ set accompanied by slide projections featuring theoretical texts, references and background stories related to each track. The sound materials are grouped into elegiac thematic clusters, touching on migration, peripheries, alternative uses of technology and interspecies relations. Each chapter opens a different journey through sound, using listening as a tool for critical reflection on the present.

In dialogue with LOVOTIC-X
Within the LOVOTIC-X framework, Black Med, Chapter III resonates with the questions raised by LOVOTIC, Soundwalk Collective’s installation exploring the possibility of emotional, sexual and affective relationships between humans and robots. Like the entire programme, this Episode addresses the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence in the context of sexuality, identity and gender, imagining possible futures through layered sonic narratives.

Biography — Invernomuto
Invernomuto is the artistic identity created in 2003 by Simone Bertuzzi (1983) and Simone Trabucchi (1982), who live and work in Milan. The duo develops long-term research projects that generate interconnected cycles of works: moving images, sound pieces, performances and editorial projects, within a practice defined by a broad yet precise use of different media.
Reality is observed through a documentary lens yet translated into imaginative and at times almost abstract forms, opening up spaces for critical reflection. Invernomuto investigates subcultural universes, oral cultures and contemporary mythologies, using vernacular languages as tools for approaching and transforming these contexts. The declared inauthenticity of some materials plays a key role in emphasising both the real and the fictional, distorted nature of the worlds they explore.
Suggested photo: portrait of the duo or still from a previous Black Med performance.
Conviviality
As with all Episodes of LOVOTIC-X, Black Med, Chapter III concluded with a food and wine experience curated by Rimessa Roscioli, extending the resonance of the listening session into a shared moment of conviviality.
