Episode 2: MONUMENTUM MONSTRUM

Monumentum Monstrum — LU.PA

EPISODE 2 — SEASON IV

On Thursday, March 6, 2025, FOROF presented Monumentum Monstrum, the new performance by the duo LU.PA (Lulù Nuti and Pamela Pintus), within Nimbus Limbus Omnibus by Gelitin/Gelatin, curated by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi. A “moving sculpture” questioning freedom and repetition, turning gesture into a shared image.

Suggested photo: opening with the two performers on the pedestal in the hypogeum space.

Sculpture in motion

Two women, facing each other, rotate on a pedestal from which a strong airflow is released. Their skirts, lifted by the wind, wrap torsos and faces, leaving only the legs visible; the continuous fan sound fills the space. The looped action suspends time, inviting a prolonged gaze where gesture becomes plastic matter.

Suggested photo: fabric lifted by the airflow, with the two figures rotating.

Icon, duplication, collective

Inspired by the iconic scene from The Seven Year Itch (1955) with Marilyn Monroe, the work strips away seduction and dilates the gesture into a “mere fact,” a multisensory sculpture. By doubling the figure, the image multiplies and refracts: it loses its individual aura and becomes a collective experience, poised between emancipation and the captivity of the gaze.

Suggested photo: frontal view of the two performers in synchrony.

Dialogue with Nimbus Limbus Omnibus

Resonating with the exhibition’s focus on manumissio, Monumentum Monstrum brings to light what usually remains offstage: the obscene becomes visible, liberated, and central. Repetition generates transformation, while the audience is invited to dwell and negotiate their point of view over time.

Suggested photo: wide shot with the audience observing and exhibition elements in view.

Biography — LU.PA

LU.PA was founded in Cosenza in 2017 by Lulù Nuti and Pamela Pintus; the duo is based in Rome. Their practice explores the relation to the “other” through performative and ritual devices that make the audience an active part of the work. They have presented in institutions such as Musée Zadkine (Paris), GAM Rome, and Palazzo Farnese — French Embassy, and in experimental contexts and international summits. They were fellows of the MAP_PA Master (Mattatoio, Rome).

Suggested photo: duo portrait or rehearsal still.

Convivial close

As with every episode of the season, the evening concluded with a taste-sensory experience curated by RIMESSA Roscioli, extending the resonance of the performance into a shared convivial moment.

Suggested photo: convivial moment with the audience in the foyer.
