DISCOVER THE ANCIENT,
HIDDEN AND UNEXPECTED ROME,
WITH THE PRÊT-À-PORTER EXPERIENCE

Every day in Rome, we unknowingly walk over an archaeological heritage of extraordinary value. In particular, those who stop to admire Trajan’s Column are often unaware of the reality hidden beneath their feet: within the foundations of Palazzo del Gallo di Roccagiovine, FOROF preserves an authentic and unique fragment of Imperial Rome, the only existing example of original polychrome marbles from the Basilica Ulpia (2nd century AD), and the very place where the ritual of manumissio took place — the ancient Roman ceremony that transformed slaves into citizens. FOROF also presents an equally unique cultural project: the unexpected and prolific encounter between archaeology and contemporary art.

Would you like to enjoy an experience at FOROF? You can do so by choosing the Prêt-à-porter formula, an original immersive guided journey, including audiovisual storytelling, discovering the atmosphere of Imperial Rome.

The experience begins with a welcome coffee and the screening of the documentary film created by journalist and writer Andrea Purgatori, exclusively for FOROF visitors: a journey back in time into the grandeur of Ancient Rome, discovering the historical significance of the place where Emperor Trajan decided to build the Basilica Ulpia and Trajan’s Column.

The visit continues with a guided tour of “INFRASUPRA”, the site-specific exhibition by Berlin-based artist Alicja Kwade, featuring sculptures and installations that reveal the powerful and evocative dialogue between contemporary art and archaeology.
The most emotional moment coincides with the descent into the archaeological site: here, the eastern apse of the Basilica Ulpia finally becomes visible, the place where, by Trajan’s will, the ancient ritual of manumissio — the liberation of slaves — took place.

The experience continues with an olfactory journey conceived by the renowned “nose” Laura Bosetti Tonatto: a voyage through the fragrances of Ancient Rome — rose, amber, incense, saffron — culminating in the final creation, FOROF Essenza, an olfactory synthesis and memory of the place.

The final stop is the 3D video reconstruction of the Basilica Ulpia, allowing you to see with your own eyes what the area of Trajan’s Forum truly looked like two thousand years ago.

Book your Experience and let yourself be surprised by what lies beneath the surface of Rome.

From Wednesday to Sunday, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
