FROM ROME TO WEIMAR,
IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF GOETHE,
WITH ALICJA KWADE’S INFRASUPRA

From Rome to Weimar, following the same route travelled by the writer and poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, but in reverse, from southern Europe to the north.

At the end of the eighteenth century, the author of Italian Journey had set off from the German city to discover our country and its capital, becoming the greatest chronicler of the Grand Tour: a formative personal experience that inspired countless artists and intellectuals after him and continues to do so today.

Now it is the turn of the model created by artist Alicja Kwade for FOROF, depicting the site-specific installation INFRASUPRA, to bid farewell to Rome and embark on a journey towards Goethe’s city.

Presented since last October in dialogue with the archaeological site of the Basilica Ulpia, the work will take part in an exhibition bringing together the recipients of the Rome Prize. The exhibition will feature the residents of the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo from the 2024/25 and 2025/26 editions, including Alicja Kwade herself.

The scale model of INFRASUPRA, which has temporarily left the spaces of Foro Traiano 1, will be presented at ACC Galerie Weimar from 23 July to 4 October 2026.

Dedicated to the processes of artistic creation, the exhibition invites visitors to enter the special dimension that precedes the completed artwork: the realm of ideas, models, experiments, notes and research.

A perfect example of an artistic project whose creative impulse does not come to an end, but instead moves beyond the boundaries of time and exhibition space, beginning a new journey towards a new audience and new meanings.

Visiting Alicja Kwade’s INFRASUPRA at FOROF, the highlight of Season V, is a multisensory experience and remains possible until the end of July 2026.
